Best Super Automatic Coffee Machine: 6 Commercial Picks (1 Semi-Auto)

The best super automatic coffee machine for foodservice: five Franke A-Series models ranked by output and drink range, plus the semi-automatic S700.

Last updated: October 6, 2026

The best commercial super automatic coffee machine for a high-volume c-store or café is the Franke A1000 Flex. It makes espresso drinks and freshly brewed coffee in one machine, up to 300 cups a day. It also supports iced drinks and up to six syrups. For an office or c-store with little counter space, choose the A400 Fresh Brew instead: it has a small footprint and brews up to 100 cups of hot coffee a day.

TFI Food Equipment Solutions is the Canadian distributor for Franke. We sell, install and service all six machines on this list across Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

How we ranked these machines

  • Automation: Fully automatic machines rank first, because they make every drink without a barista. Franke labels the five A-Series models fully automatic and the S700 semi-automatic, so the S700 ranks last. We include it for cafés with baristas on every shift.

  • Daily output: Among the fully automatic models, higher rated output ranks higher, from up to 300 cups per day down to 100. Ratings come from Franke's model pages and spec sheets. Franke rates the S700 per hour only, so its figure is listed but not compared.

  • Drink range: When two models share the same output, the one with the wider menu ranks higher. We counted the drink types Franke lists for each model: espresso-based drinks, milk and milk foam, freshly brewed coffee, iced drinks and flavours. That is why the A1000 Flex sits above the A1000.

  • Best-fit operation: This sets each model's "best for" label, not its rank. It draws on the settings Franke and TFI name for each model (offices, c-stores, QSRs, hotels, cafés, bakeries) and, where Franke states it, the counter space the machine suits.

The 6 best Franke coffee machines for foodservice

1. Franke A1000 Flex

Franke A1000 Flex commercial coffee machine with touchscreen, bean hoppers, milk cooler and cleanmaster unit.

The A1000 Flex makes espresso drinks and freshly brewed ground coffee in one machine, so a high-volume c-store or café can sell both from one spot on the counter. It is rated at up to 300 cups of espresso-based beverages and freshly brewed coffee per day, level with the A1000 for the highest daily rating on this list.

It also has the longest drink list of the six. It supports Cold Water Bypass for iced drinks and a Flavor Station with up to six syrups, and FoamMaster handles milk-based or milk alternative drinks such as cappuccino and macchiato. Orders run from a 10.4-inch touchscreen with video. It is built for high-traffic cafés and hotels, and it also suits convenience stores and offices.

Less comes as standard than on the A1000. CleanMaster automatic cleaning is optional on the Flex, where the A1000 has it built in, and milk refrigeration units and the Flavor Station are add-ons. Ask for a quote on the configuration your menu needs, not the base machine.

2. Franke A1000

Franke A1000 commercial coffee machine with touchscreen and side milk fridge, front view.

The A1000 is the machine for a high-volume QSR, hotel or c-store where milk drinks lead the menu. FoamMaster milk foam is standard, and it pairs with the SU12/UC12 (12 L) refrigeration unit, which holds up to two types of milk. It is rated at up to 300 cups per day, the same as the A1000 Flex.

Three boilers supply hot water, coffee and steam, and the machine takes up to three grinders, for regular, decaf or specialty blends. The 10.4-inch colour touchscreen displays videos and nutritional information, and staff can customize the menu on it. CleanMaster automatic cleaning is standard. The machine is 13.4 in wide, 28.7 in high and 23.6 in deep.

It ranks second because the Flex adds freshly brewed ground coffee to a similar menu. The third grinder and the Flavor Station are optional on the A1000, as is the iced coffee module, so check which of them a quote includes. It comes with a 12-month parts and labour warranty.

3. Franke A800 Fresh Brew

Franke A800 commercial coffee machine close-up with its touchscreen showing iQFlow intelligent coffee extraction.

For a bakery or café that sells mostly brewed coffee, the A800 Fresh Brew brews each cup to order, hot or iced, from up to 3 bean types. It is rated at up to 250 cups per day, and full details are on our A800 Fresh Brew page.

Iced coffee comes from Cold Water Bypass, which can be programmed to add cold water before, during or after the coffee. Beans go in two lockable 2.5 lb rear hoppers and one lockable 1.3 lb front hopper, and the machine has a 10.4-inch touchscreen. Cleaning is automatic. It suits hotels, bakeries and cafés.

It is built for brewed coffee and has no milk system, so a menu built on lattes belongs on the A1000 or A1000 Flex. It weighs approximately 135 lbs empty. It is 13.4 in wide and 23.6 in deep, the same as the A1000, but 33.5 in high against the A1000's 28.7 in, so check the clearance under any shelving.

4. Franke A600

Black Franke A600 bean-to-cup coffee machine with touchscreen and side milk fridge.

The A600 is built to work on either side of the counter. It is designed for both service and self-service operations, and its 8-inch colour touchscreen carries a customizable menu that staff or customers can use. It is rated at up to 170 cups per day, between the A400 Fresh Brew's 100 and the A800 Fresh Brew's 250.

It makes espresso and brewed coffee from two lockable 2.5 lb bean hoppers. An iced coffee option serves freshly brewed chilled coffee on its own or with milk, milk foam or syrups. CleanMaster handles the cleaning. It is best suited to restaurants and convenience stores and comes with a 12-month parts and labour warranty.

Milk drinks use FoamMaster, and the refrigeration unit that holds the milk, such as the SU05 (1.3 G), is an accessory. If you sell milk drinks, ask for the milk version and its refrigeration unit by name when you request a quote.

5. Franke A400 Fresh Brew

Black Franke A400 Fresh Brew bean-to-cup coffee machine with a touchscreen showing a fresh brewed coffee graphic.

Counter space is the reason to choose the A400 Fresh Brew. Its small footprint makes it ideal where counter space is limited, such as convenience stores, office breakrooms and hotel lobbies.

It brews hot bean-to-cup coffee in up to four cup sizes. Two bean hoppers have dedicated grinders, so two blends can be on offer at once, and the machine has an 8-inch colour touchscreen. CleanMaster and EasyClean automatic cleaning systems keep it clean and descaled.

It is rated at up to 100 cups of freshly brewed coffee per day, the lowest of the five A-Series models here, and its drink range is the narrowest. It is a hot coffee machine with no milk drinks on its standard menu, so check the milk option with us before you plan lattes around it. A c-store that needs milk drinks and more volume should look at the A600, rated at up to 170 cups per day.

6. Franke S700

Franke S700 commercial coffee machine with touchscreen and a side cabinet of white cups

The S700 is the only semi-automatic machine on this list. It automates espresso brewing and leaves milk frothing to the barista. Choose it for a café whose baristas want to steam milk themselves.

It is rated at up to 160 espressos per hour, an hourly figure that cannot be set against the daily ratings of the A-Series. Two grinders are standard, a 3-boiler system supplies steam and hot water, and staff work from an 8-inch touchscreen. The steam wand supports manual foaming with Autosteam, which has an integrated temperature sensor, or foams milk fully automatically with the Autosteam Pro option. It suits cafés and restaurants, and its menu includes cappuccinos and flat whites.

It ranks last on automation. Unless Autosteam Pro is fitted, each milk drink needs a barista at the steam wand, so a counter without baristas is better served by a fully automatic A-Series model. The machine measures 340 x 750 x 600 mm (W x H x D).

Which Franke model fits your operation

Start from the drinks you sell and the room you have.

  • High-volume c-store or café selling espresso drinks and brewed coffee: the A1000 Flex, rated at up to 300 cups per day across both.

  • High-volume QSR or hotel where milk drinks lead: the A1000. FoamMaster is standard, and its refrigeration unit takes up to two types of milk.

  • Bakery or café selling hot and iced brewed coffee: the A800 Fresh Brew, at up to 250 cups per day from up to 3 bean types.

  • Restaurant or c-store with staffed or self-serve coffee: the A600, designed for both. Ask for the milk version if you sell milk drinks.

  • Office or c-store short on counter space: the A400 Fresh Brew, for hot coffee in up to four cup sizes from a small footprint.

  • Café with baristas who steam milk by hand: the S700, the one semi-automatic machine here.

To see every spec side by side, read our full Franke A-Series comparison. If you are choosing between the A600, A800 and A1000, our A600 vs A800 vs A1000 comparison sets them against each other.

What to plan for before installing one

Check the electrical supply first, because the connection differs by model. The A800 Fresh Brew needs 208V (30 A). For the A1000 it is a 200 to 220 VAC, 30A circuit. The A600 takes 200 to 240 V at 20 to 24 A, and the S700's 208 V option is listed at 24 A. Milk can add a second connection: the A600's SU05 and KE200 refrigeration units run on 110 V. Give your electrician the sheet for your model before the machine arrives.

Next is water. The A800 Fresh Brew, A600, A1000 and S700 all need water pressure of 80 to 800 kPa, and the A800 Fresh Brew connects through a 3/8-inch compression fitting. Water quality limits differ by model. Test your water against the limits for the machine you choose:

  • A800 Fresh Brew: total hardness 70 to 140 ppm, chlorine under 0.5 mg/l, pH 6.5 to 7.5.

  • A600: hardness 3-5 GPG, 100 or less TDS, total chlorides under 30 mg/L.

  • A1000: hardness max. 7 dH, chloride max. 0.1 mg/l, ideal pH 7.

  • S700: total hardness 4 to 8 dH.

Milk models need room for a refrigeration unit as well as the machine. The A1000's unit is the SU12/UC12 (12 L); the A600's are the SU05 (1.3 G) and the KE200 (1 G). On the A1000 Flex, milk refrigeration units are add-ons.

Four of the five A-Series machines have automatic cleaning built in; on the A1000 Flex, CleanMaster is optional. A motel operator running an A1000 says the cleaning process takes only 10 minutes of their time per day because the machine does the rest.

Questions operators ask about commercial super automatic machines

How many cups a day can a commercial super automatic coffee machine make?

On the five A-Series machines here, rated output runs from up to 100 cups per day on the A400 Fresh Brew to up to 300 on the A1000 and A1000 Flex. The A800 Fresh Brew is rated at up to 250 and the A600 at up to 170. The semi-automatic S700 is rated by the hour instead, at up to 160 espressos per hour, so its figure does not compare directly with the others.

Can I lease or finance a Franke coffee machine through TFI?

Yes. We offer lease-to-own terms of 12 to 60 months on all Franke A-Series models, with buyout options of fair market value, $1 or 10%, and the digital application typically gets a response within 24 hours. Lease payments may be tax-deductible, so check with your tax professional. Our rental program uses used or demo units on terms from month-to-month to multi-year, and it accepts startups.

Are parts shared across Franke A-Series machines?

Yes. Key parts are shared across the A-Series line-up, from the A300 through to the A1000, so we can repair them faster. Our parts and equipment warehouse is in Bolton, Ontario.

Who services Franke coffee machines in Ontario and Atlantic Canada?

We do. As the Canadian distributor for Franke, we support every Franke system we install in Ontario and Atlantic Canada. Our factory-trained technicians repair with genuine OEM parts and renew their factory certification every year, and we offer 24/7 emergency repair. TFI Total Care bundles planned maintenance, all reactive service calls, training and no overtime charges for one monthly fee.

What is the difference between a super automatic and a semi-automatic coffee machine?

A super automatic (also called fully automatic) grinds, brews and dispenses each drink with no barista required. Built-in burr grinders on the A-Series dose and grind the beans seconds before extraction. The S700 is semi-automatic because it pairs that automated brewing with a steam wand for milk, worked by hand with Autosteam or automatically with the Autosteam Pro option. If no barista is on shift, choose a super automatic; if your baristas want control of the milk, the S700 is built for them.

Book a demo before you buy

For a high-volume counter, ask us to price the A1000 Flex first, or the A1000 if milk drinks lead your menu.
